FICTION

Oscar Cahén completed a phenomenal amount of fiction illustration for most of the leading periodicals in Canada. The variation in styles in his fiction work is quite remarkable; Cahén never slipped into a rut in 15 years. He absorbed influences from Western and non-Western art, clipping and saving LIFE magazine's frequent art features. Although he was critical of mainstream American illustration, Cahén still worked within its general vocabulary - and then added to it.
